Important Information

It is required that if you wish to work as a Home Care Support Worker (Carer), in the homecare industry in Ireland, you are required to have achieved, as a minimum, Fetac/QQI Level 5 certification in the “Care of the Older Person” and “Care Skills” modules, if you are working on behalf of the HSE or with HSE Clients. It is also required that you have completed “Manual Handling” and “Patient Handling”.

All of the care staff at Care for Me Homecare are fully qualified and Garda Vetted. We have now been successfully running a Training & Employment program for the past several months. This program allows Care for Me Homecare, in cooperation with our training partners, to give individuals the training in both the required modules. These two modules are available to anyone who wishes to upskill themselves and become a carer. Care for Me holds the training for both these modules at one of the lowest rates available in the country.

We also provide free In-House Manual Handling and Patient Handling training. This is “In-House” training and therefore is only valid while working for Care for Me Homecare. This free in-house training is only available to individuals who currently work for the company or are doing the FETAC/QQI Level 5 modules with the company and intend on taking a job with the company.

Once the training has been completed and passed, all prospective employees are granted an interview. Successful candidates are then Garda vetted and go through “Induction Training” and are then ready to join the Care for Me Homecare team.

Although this program is relatively new, we have already seen huge benefits, hiring close to 50% of our original workforce through individuals who have gone through this program. We also have a robust induction process which allows many individuals to get back to the workforce or to start their very first job with confidence and support. We have had numerous candidates apply to and complete this process with us who have come from being in receipt of social welfare payments, to now being in full employment with the company.

Care for Me Homecare also has a developmental program by which we continually assess and evaluate the current training requirement of our staff and schedule training to take place to address any shortcomings or deficiencies in their training. As part of our ongoing effort to up-skill all of our carers, we will be assisting all our staff to attain the Healthcare support Level 5 Major award that is recommended level of qualification by the HSE.

By providing and holding this training internally, we can ensure that we are generating the highest calibre of carers to add to our care team, by monitoring their progress closely and offering additional support and aid when necessary.
